A Call To Artists

 Columbia, Tenn., July 26, 2013, Maury County Parks and Recreation, Arts in Action, Friends of Maury County Parks, and Pet Pals of Maury County are proud to announce the second annual General Motors Arts In The Park juried art show and sale.  General Motors Arts in the Park is a family-friendly art show and sale designed to engage the whole community.

To be considered for the show, artists will submit individual photographs of three separate pieces of their original artwork. All submissions must be mailed, delivered in person or emailed to Wall Candy in downtown Columbia. Artists’ submissions must include artist’s name, address, phone number and e-mail address. Submissions must be received by August 23, 2013.  All submissions will be reviewed by a committee. Artists selected to participate will be notified by August 30, 2013, and will receive registration forms at that time. Booth fees are $35.00 for Arts in Action members and $45.00 for non-members.

The second annual General Motors Arts in The Park show and sale will be held Saturday, October 19, 2013, in Maury County Park. This family-friendly event includes the Walgreen’s “Art of Healthy Living” 5k and one mile fun run. Performing Arts will be featured on the First Farmers and Merchants Bank stage and include performances by Logan Blade, Damien Boggs, and RedHead Express.  General Motors will sponsor a hands on family-friendly art experience “Picasso’s Playground” and culinary artists are invited to participate in “Just Desserts”– that’s art you can really sink your teeth into.

“From the HeART” Community Art Exhibit at Pryor Gallery

The Pryor Art Gallery on the campus of Columbia State Community College announced today a community-wide juried art competition. The exhibit, “From the HeART” is open to all artists in Middle Tennessee and is co-sponsored by TriStar Bank and Arts in Action.

The dates of the exhibit are, July 1 thru July 31, 2013, with public reception scheduled for July 12.

To be accepted into the exhibit, artist must submit a photograph of their work to Rusty Summerville, Curator, Pryor Art Gallery, 1665 Hampshire Pike, Columbia, TN 38401, or email photos to Submissions must be received by May 22, 2013. If accepted into the show, artists will be notified by June 1, 2013.

The exhibit is open to all visual art mediums, including oil, watercolor, acrylics, mixed media and also pottery and sculpted pieces. Exhibit rules and entry forms can be downloaded from the Art Gallery page on the website or the Arts in Action website,

There will be $500 in prize money awarded.

First Farmers and Merchants Chalk Art and Music Festival Unplugged

The First Farmers and Merchants Chalk Art and Music Festival – Unplugged will transform the streets of downtown, Columbia, Tennessee into a bright and colorful street museum.  Over the course of once day, professional, amateur and student artists will captivate audiences as they take to the pavement armed with vivid pastel chalks and spend hours on their hands and knees recreating major masterpieces.  Chalk and festival t-shirts will be provided for all registrants.  If under 18 years of age, a guardian, parent or adult supervisor must be present.  Registration deadline is May 31st, 2013.  All participants will be required to sign a hold harmless and photo release.  All art must be appropriate for public viewing and a photocopy of proposed art must be submitted along with registration.  All fees are non-refundable.

YOUTH CHALLENGE:  The Youth Challenge will give area schools and non-profit youth groups the opportunity to compete for cash prizes that will go to their respective school or youth group for visual, performing or literary arts.  Groups of up to four students will form teams to create their masterpieces on a 4×4 square.  Each group must have a team leader over 18 years of age.  Youth registration is $20.00 per team member or $80.00 per team.
Students are also eligible to participate individually in the Artist Sponsorship Contest.
ARTIST SPONSORSHIP CONTEST:  All youth may compete individually, regardless if they are working in teams to compete based on the number of sponsors that they are able to obtain.  Prizes will be awarded for the highest dollar amount of sponsorships earned. All sponsors will have their name on signage next to the participant’s square.
INDIVIDUAL STUDENT REGISTRATION:  Ages: 5 – 18.  Registration $20.00.  T-shirt and chalk included.   Students may elect to individually chalk their own square.  They will not be eligible to compete for cash prizes but will be able to compete based on the number of sponsors that they are able to obtain in the Artist Sponsorship Contest.
ARTIST REGISTRATION:   Ages 19 and up.  An artist may elect to register as a Chalk Artist only ($35.00), as a Chalk Artist and Vendor ($55.00) or as just a Vendor ($65.00).  Vendors will be assigned a 10×10 space for their booth.  No electricity is available.  Chalk artists will receive t-shirt and chalk with their registration.
